On Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Lombard Villager Board of Trustees meeting, District Five Trustee Dan Militello announced the recipients of the Senior Man and Woman of the Year awards. While the program is sponsored by the Community Relations Committee, Chair and District Two Trustee Jessie Hammersmith was absent, so Militello did the honors.
Militello announced that Jackie Stawiarksi was named Senior Woman of the Year, and cited how she had “demonstrated a longstanding commitment to helping others throughout our community.”
He noted that Stawiarksi makes blankets, collects donations for local causes, shares produce from her garden with local food pantries and prepares food for individuals who are homeless.
Additionally, Stawiarski has volunteered with the Lombard Junior Women’s Club, TLC Camp, St. Pius X, Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and the Ray Graham Association.
Lynn Moist was named Senior Man of the Year. Moist was traveling and unavailable that night, Militello said, but Militello mentioned the Lombard resident’s “dedicated service” to The Outreach House, where he volunteers to help with food and clothing, “and steps in wherever he is needed.”
Militello pointed out how Moist has made over 250 donations over more than 50 years. He said Moist would be recognized at a future village board meeting.
Militello said other nominees included Cathy Folz, Elaine Delgado, Deanna “DeeDee” Pisano and Dale Pisano.
“Each of these individuals was nominated because of the time, service and care they have given to others. We thank them for their contributions to Lombard and thank those who took the time to nominate them,” he said.
“And thank you to all this year’s nominees for the many ways you have made Lombard a great community,” Militello said.
During the nomination period, Hammersmith commented in a release that “Jackie and Lynn are wonderful examples of the difference one person can make by simply giving their time willingly in the service of others.
“Their service may happen quietly and without expectation of recognition, but its impact is felt throughout our community. We are grateful for all they do and proud to recognize them with this year’s awards.”

Village President Anthony Puccio announced that just prior to the board meeting the Lombard Police department “had the honor” of swearing in five new officers: Officer Jack Evoy, Officer Michael Knezevic, Officer Damian Jimenez, Officer Cameron Winters and Officer Aaron Diaz-Sepulvda.
Sgt. Charles Brack received a promotion, he added.
“Those are always some of our favorite events,” Puccio said. “We love to welcome people into the family and organization.”
The village board approved, on first reading, the levy and assessment of taxes for the Village of Lombard Special Services Area Number Three, in the amount of $11,250 for Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2026.
The special assessment ordinance was approved by the then-village board on Aug. 5, 1993, in order to levy taxes for special services in the special service area.
In a vote on second reading, the board approved an increase of $50,000 to a contract with Homer Tree Care, Inc., and with a waiver of bids requested.
The village board had awarded a contract for $57,180 for the 2026 tree and stump removal contract, but according to a village memo, “Due to the windstorm that the village experienced on July 27 the village identified additional trees that sustained damage and needed to be removed.”
Village staff had requested the additional funds—and the waiver of bids—“to ensure that funding is available to address identified trees for removal, as well as any additional removals that are identified through the remainder of 2026,” the memo states.
